Google Bard: could it be poetry to your ears?

Could Google’s AI chatbot, Bard, be the best chatbot there is? Read on to learn more.

Google Bard

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been on the rise with more and more tech companies releasing their own versions of software, built for various uses. One field in which a lot of companies are exploring the use of AI is the purpose of chatbots and virtual assistants. A recent one to enter into the arena is Google’s AI chatbot called Google Bard. It’s not the first AI-powered feature from the tech giant, and it’s also not the only of its kind in the market, but it could prove to be quite useful for individuals and businesses alike. Let’s take a deeper dive into what exactly Bard is, what it offers and how it compares to other chatbots.

What is Google Bard?

Bard is a beta version of Google’s very own chatbot powered by AI. It’s integrated into the web and uses Google’s LaMDA language model to draw all of its knowledge and answer questions and queries in a conversational manner. Although the tech giant still brands it as an experimental service, it’s likely to be a helpful tool as it can access up-to-date and fresh information, unlike other chatbots currently being used. And Google plans on using this beta mode as a way to collect feedback from real users that will help them improve the platform and language model so it can answer queries more effectively.

The service can be used to write out essays or provide programming examples. It’s also speculated that Bars will be integrated with Google Search soon, which will add to its extensive list of capabilities and improve the User Experience of Search.

Google intends to make Bard as close to human interaction as possible so you can ask it basic questions like “Which is the best web design agency in London?” or more complicated and nuanced questions that are open-ended and require reasoning and lengthy answers.

How do you use Google Bard?

Currently, Bard isn’t open to the public, but rather restricted to what Google calls “trusted testers”. If you’re interested in trying out the AI chatbot and getting a feel of what it can do and what it offers, you can sign up for a waiting list and you’ll receive an email once you’ve been granted access to the service.

When you meet Bard, you’ll be able to start chatting by typing your questions, queries and prompts in a chat window and Bard will reply. It will also walk you through the platform to teach you what you can do and how to go about doing it. Bard will be able to help you with tasks, and explanations, or just answer general questions you might have.

However, remember that not all AI runs smoothly, especially in its learning phase. You may encounter a few hiccups when interacting with Bard, but as the platform grows, it will continuously learn from interactions with real-world users and increase its knowledge base. This will enable it to run more smoothly and answer users better. Bard will also be able to draw information from blogs and articles so it can get an understanding of people’s opinions and use that kind of information to answer queries in more detail. With this kind of access, Bard will be able to surpass other AI chatbots because it doesn’t just gather objective facts. It has free-reign to the web so it can essentially collect whatever information it needs to build its knowledge base and language model.

How does Google Bard compare to other chatbots?

As mentioned earlier, Bard has access to a lot more information than other chatbots because it will be rolled out onto the web, giving it an upper edge. It’s still in its beta phase so it will be interesting to see how well the platform is executed as it’s rolled out and becomes accessible to the public.

OpenAI’s popular chatbot, ChatGPT, will likely be one of the top competitors although it doesn’t offer as much as Bard but it’s the most advanced at the moment. ChatGPT works in a similar manner where users can type queries and tasks into the chat window and get an answer. It also works by gathering data and information the more it interacts with users. But its knowledge base won’t match Bard’s as it can only access information up to 2021. Google is also one of the most sophisticated, and largest, data collectors, making Bard’s learning and training model the best you can find.

The future with Bard

Although there are a few chatbots available already, the introduction of Bard to the public will make life on the web much easier. With its extensive database to access information from, users won’t have to forage for answers or explanations and can get tasks done more efficiently and with ease. The future with Bard is one to keep an eye on.
