Our Story.

Our Culture, People, Skills, Experience & Creativity

Lilo’s story of web design goes way back to the 1990’s.

Backstory

Lilo planted its digital roots when download speeds and SEO weren’t even words in any dictionary. We’ve seen the evolution of 1-page corporate websites develop into complex web-based software systems (because we’ve been around as long as Google has!).

With the newest technology, our team has honed their design and development skills to build customer-centric, interactive websites that provide value to our clients.

Our globally spread team might be small but we have ample skill to use to our advantage. As a small team, we can provide stronger communication between ourselves and our clients. Even though we’re based in offices across the world, you’ll feel as though we’re right beside you.

What’s your work background?

When I joined Lilo (then Webrepro) 15 years ago, I started as an Account Manager. My previous work history is filled with interesting, diverse roles as a Marketing Executive, Online Events Coordinator, Restaurant Manager, Actress, Translator. Lilo gave me the right support to find joy and confidence in my role looking after all our clients and building relationships with them.

What part of your work most inspires you?

Building relationships. I truly enjoy getting to know new clients, find ways to connect and support our ongoing connection.

What’s your favourite go-to podcast or book or music after a difficult day?

I don’t do podcasts but I am currently reading ‘Performing Care’ a book about our understanding of performance as a mode of caring and the relationship between socially engaged performance and care. But I can really switch off with a Robert Galbraith book.

What’s your work background?

I first started my career in marketing at a travel agency in Cape Town. It became very evident how quickly the industry evolves and I enjoyed constantly learning new skills. I decided to move to an agency facing role, to get exposure to as many different industries as possible. This allowed me understand the various needs of a wide range of SME clients. I fell in love with the constant challenges and growth opportunities that a career in digital marketing offers.

What part of your work most inspires you?

Helping connect people with businesses. I love seeing growth in the exposure of a business. Seeing positive trends growth after months of work and strategising bring more customers to your client’s business is what makes what I do worth it every day.

What’s your favourite go-to podcast or book or music after a difficult day?

Great Women of Business. The podcast highlights great women that changed the way of business in the history. I’m inspired by how iconic women in business persevered even through some of the biggest failures and never gave up their dreams.

Where in the world are you?

London, U.K

What’s your work background?

I did a graphic design & Illustration degree in the late 80s. Got involved in interactive design in the early nineties, which then naturally lead me on to a career in web design, which I got involved in in the early days of the dotcom “bubble” (late 90s).

What part of your work most inspires you:

I love all aspects of being creative but I particularly enjoy working on branding projects or projects with a great brand. There’s something wonderful about creating something from scratch and the process itself allows for a greater depth of creativity and usually covers a broader range of design disciplines.

What’s your favourite go-to podcast or book or music after a difficult day?:

After a difficult day there’s nothing better than the distraction of good TV. Music plays a big part when I’m working.

What’s your work background / how did you find yourself as a {company role}

After growing bored with creating marketing materials for retail / wholesale businesses (teaching myself the basics of whatever tools I could get my hands on), I started exploring digital marketing with various online courses, which led me to doing social media marketing at Lilo. From there, I shifted to the more interesting world of search engine optimisation, while still looking to learn more skills along the way.

What part of your work most inspires you?

Conundrums really. Analysing client websites and looking for the more puzzling elements of what is making that site fail or underperform – from a search engine and user perspective.

What’s your favourite go-to podcast or book or music after a difficult day?

My interests tend to change priority regularly (from running, board-gaming to video games) and I listen / watch media to match that.  Currently I’m in a movie (The Weekly Planet / Caravan of Garbage) and football (That Peter Crouch Podcast) phase. For reading, I mostly stick to science fiction and fantasy.

I studied music and drama in the hopes of becoming famous one day, but it never quite turned out that way! After university I started working for an import company learning the ropes in sales and marketing, and making my way through working for a software company in KZN.
