The Challenge

For this project, Lilo was approached to redevelop Shapero Rare Book Store website, with the main focus improving the overall user experience. The previous website was built on WordPress. While WordPress and Woocommerce are suitable for small scale ecommerce sites, the client had outgrown the platform. Due to the number of products and the size of the site, pages were slowing down to load and general usability was affected.

Solution

Lilo recommended a Magento 2 solution, which could not only easily support Shapero’s current inventory, but can also scale for future growth. For the Shapero blog, we suggested keeping WordPress (which has a strong set of blog-specific features), and integrated it into the main Magento web solution.

Result

Shapero was delivered a breathtaking website, complete with a high quality and unique look and feel. With the use of Magento 2, Lilo was able to deliver a user-friendly eCommerce catalogue and secured payment gateway. The redesign improved the performance of the site, resulting increase in revenue and organic traffic.

The Challenge.

Shapero Rare Books is an internationally renowned dealer in antiquarian and rare books. They specialise in fine illustrated books from the 15th to 20th century, covering subjects such as natural history, travel, guidebooks and more. With a combined experience of over 250 years, Shapero’s team of specialists brings a wealth of expertise to the table. They have cultivated particular knowledge in various areas, including fine illustrated books spanning the 15th to the 20th century, travel and voyages, natural history, modern first editions, rare children’s books, guidebooks, Hebraica and Judaica, works of Russian interest, and Islamica.

Shapero, a large eCommerce website that relies on WordPress, is facing some serious challenges when it comes to how users interact with the site and its overall performance. As the website has expanded in size and complexity, loading times have slowed down significantly, causing frustration for visitors and impacting the site’s usability. This issue is directly affecting Shapero’s ability to generate revenue, as potential customers are deterred by the sluggishness of the site.

Furthermore, Shapero’s current website design fails to capture the attention of users and provide them with a pleasant browsing experience. It doesn’t meet the standards expected in today’s digital landscape and falls short in effectively showcasing the wide range of products offered by Shapero. As a result, there has been a decline in both revenue and organic traffic to the site.

To overcome these challenges, Shapero urgently needs a solution that addresses the website’s performance and user experience issues. The existing WordPress platform is no longer sufficient to meet the demands of Shapero’s growing business and needs to be replaced or upgraded. By revamping the website’s design and implementing improvements to optimize its performance, Shapero aims to enhance the user experience, attract more customers, and ultimately boost both revenue and organic traffic.

In summary, the current state of Shapero’s eCommerce website is hindering its success. Through a comprehensive solution involving platform enhancement, design improvements, and performance optimization, Shapero aims to overcome these challenges, deliver an engaging user experience, and achieve significant growth in revenue and organic traffic.

The Solution

Shapero acknowledged that the current WordPress platform needed to be improved for their growing business needs. To address this issue, they decided to redesign their website and migrate it to the Magento platform.

The website underwent a complete transformation, focusing on creating a visually appealing design that would provide users with an enjoyable and immersive browsing experience. Shapero carefully evaluated the website’s layout, navigation, and overall aesthetics to ensure it effectively showcased its diverse range of products.

One of Lilo’s primary goals for the Shapero’s website was to increase the website’s speed and performance. We did this by using Magento features. We implemented these features and were able to tackle issues like slow page loading times and usability concerns.

We also took several steps to improve the website’s performance. This included optimizing the underlying infrastructure, implementing advanced caching techniques, and optimizing code and media assets. These efforts paid off, resulting in a much more responsive and faster website. Visitors now enjoy a seamless browsing experience when interacting with our site.

The Result?

After the redesign, the Shapero website saw an improvement in performance. The website was running smoothly and able to handle and process a wider catalogue with more purcahse requests and orders. Thanks to the improvement in user experience, Shapero shoppers increased in number and their engagement began to rise as well. The goals for the new website, to encourage users to spend more time on the site and to make a purchase, were achieved as users seemed to be happier to stick around and browse the site.

We also implemented a strong Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategy and the results were rewarding. The strategy was able to increase visibility which in turn resulted in an increase in sales and revenue. We used keyword targetting to ensure that Shapero users could find the site easily when searching for products and services in a search engine. The Lilo SEO team also used Google Ads and linkbuilding to boost website visibility and increase sales and revenue.
