Tradewind Recruitment has over 600 staff, based in several offices in 4 countries.

This project was the redevelopment and enhancement of the original intranet we wrote for Tradewind in 2013.

The original intranet was hosted internally by Tradewind which added access complexity for staff in offices outside of the head office, management of the hosting infrastructure, and security.

Sector: Recruitment
Target Audience: B2B and B2C
Website Objectives: Web-based intranet to support their staff and automate their HR workflows
Technologies: ASP.Net Core, Entity Framework, MS SQL Server, REST API, React UI
Location: UK /Australia / Canada / Ireland

After trialing several cloud-based off-the-shelf systems, Tradewind couldn’t find one that matched all their needs, so decided to return to a bespoke solution, and approached us to provide the solution.

The Solution

After several requirement meetings, a comprehensive specification and wireframes were presented, along with a multi-phase approach to allow Tradewind access to a minimal system as soon as possible, with less critical functionality added with each additional phase.

Microsoft ASP.Net Core was chosen as the REST Framework for the API, utilising Entity Framework as the ORM, and Microsoft SQL Server for the RDBMS.

ASP.Net core provides a cross-platform, high-performance, open-source framework for building modern, cloud-enabled, Internet-connected apps, while Microsoft SQL Server is a mature enterprise-level relational database with a history of over 30 years.

Project Scope of Works

As ASP.Net core is cross-platform, the application could be hosted on virtually any hosting provider, cloud-based or dedicated, and could be scaled simply and easily if required.

Automated workflows were implemented to support multiple HR tasks that could be run based on user-defined criteria and time periods, eliminating a lot of their manual current HR tasks.

A custom organisation hierarchy mixed with a role-based permission system was implemented to provide access and restrictions determined by a user’s team, position in the organisation structure, job titles, and assigned permissions.

The Result

The new intranet provided a way for staff to manage their own data within the organisation, and for senior staff to disseminate information and documents to staff members in centrally controlled portal. Automation resulted in more time for HR staff to deal with the more important staff interactions, rather than spend time with mundane data collection, entry, and reporting.
