While there are other fantasy rugby leagues, what sets Fantasy Rugby League apart is its unique drafting system – similar to what happens in the American NFL.
The site features two of the 2 top rugby competitions in the world, one from each hemisphere – The English Premiership, and Super Rugby. Users can create accounts and invite friends to join their own custom leagues. Before a season starts, each league member submits a list of their preferred players to draft for their teams within their league. During the draft, players get allocated to different users to finalise teams – players can not be duplicated within a league
This creates a more real-life (and in-depth) representation of the sport, while still offering features from a traditional fantasy manager experience.
Lilo designed and developed a bespoke .Net website for the Fantasy Rugby Draft project.
This was a highly-intricate project, with a number of custom functionalities created from scratch. This included the online drafting system for the leagues, which supported up to 10 players selecting their preferred picks in realtime.
An automated system was implemented for the calculation of points – based on the real-life performance of all the players within each competition. This was done via a third-party integration with OPTA, suppliers of live sports performance data.
