AOFM | Online Makeup School

The Challenge

AOFM is renowned for being one of the world’s leading makeup schools with education centers in London, Paris and New York. They revolutionised makeup education by creating the first makeup school to be owned and operated by working freelance makeup artists.

Their artists (as well as graduates) are sent all over the globe to represent the company backstage at prestigious fashion shows and other events.

With an eye on wanting to reach a larger audience beyond their physical locations, this makeup school wished to implement an online version of their famous school.

This would enable users to learn the trade from over 50 of the world’s leading makeup artists, and give them the opportunity to become certified professional makeup artists.

They approached us to develop a bespoke platform to house their new online makeup school.

The Solution

We have been working with AOFM for over 10 years now, working collaboratively with them from the very start on the UX – meeting at their offices in Covent Garden- to the development phase with full team meetings in our Cape Town offices.

This is what we call a fully bespoke project, and a lot of effort, love and care went into the build of the site.

Project Scope of Works

Peer to peer video conferencing functionality was added for students to view and engage with tutors.

The bespoke website we created allows students to effortlessly:

Create a new profile with which to enroll in the various courses
Pay for each course with a choice of popular payment options
Complete course modules / assignments
Communicate with their tutors
Take exams

Each student has access to a course dashboard, where they can see all available courses and lessons. Each lesson contains a lesson plan, notes from the tutors, the ability to upload notes and lessons for evaluation – and each submission’s results.

Each tutor also has their own personal profile with dashboard, where they can view all student information (their courses, lessons, status of lessons, all submitted materials etc.). A reporting system was set in place to mark student progress, and award passes / diplomas.

The Result

The final result, a powerful school/education system, is as outstanding as the Academy itself, and gives credit to the creativity of the artists and students involved. The success here is clearly based on our collaborative work, we immersed ourselves in AOFM ways of teaching, generated and implemented user flows which match perfectly their innovative and unique ways of teaching.

This is a success based on UX, Design and bespoke development. To this day our relationship is still going strong, as we constantly update the site to showcase AOFM talent and keep it fresh and at the edge of innovation.
